Sophomore Lucille Wong looks forward to her session in a professional recording studio, which she received for winning the talent show.

Sophomore Lucille Wong competed in the Starr Search Talent Show, an annual fundraiser for the Chorus Department, for the first time against 17 other acts. While some of the other acts were competing for the cash prizes, Wong wasn’t in it for the money.

“I like sharing my music with other people,” Wong said.  “I didn’t do the talent show to win.”  But win is exactly what Wong did. Wong took  first place with her piano performance of Chopin’s “Fantasie- Impromtu”.

“Chopin is my favorite composer, and this piece is one I’ve always wanted to play since I was little,” said Wong, who has been playing piano for almost 10 years.

Other talent show highlights include senior Jazmine Smith who won second place for her vocal on ” Settle Down” by Kimbra; junior Garrison Pavel, who sang “Thank you God for Saving Me” by Chris Tomlin, placed third  and freshmen Alexa Echevarria and Grace Nelson who won the People’s Choice Award with their performance of “What You Don’t Know About Women” from the musical City of Angels.

Wong said she didn’t  expect to win first place. “I was shocked at first.  It didn’t settle in right away, but when it did, I couldn’t believe it,” Wong said. Along with a $100 cash prize, Wong also received a free,  full-day recording package at The Stage Academy of Music in Peachtree City.

“It’s really cool, I’ve never professionally recorded anything, and I think it will be a really fun experience to have,” Wong said.
