Sophomore Henry Long recently finished reading “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho.
“I like this book specifically because it was about trusting the universe,” Long said. “Whenever you work hard for something, it will come to you.”
The novel is about the narrator, a young Andalusian shepherd, and his journey to find treasure in the Egyptian pyramids. Along the way he finds love, mentorships, and the importance of himself. “The Alchemist” is an allegorical, fiction book.
“I found [the book] through a friend who enjoyed this book and recommended it to me,” Long said.
Paulo Coelho has 33 published books. He has won 29 awards, four of which have gone to “The Alchemist.” Paulo is also a lyricist. He is most known for his international selling of “The Alchemist.”
“I would definitely recommend this book to other readers,” Long said. “I think that you can interpret it how you want.”
The overall theme or message of “The Alchemist” is the individual pursuit of happiness and the importance of finding that. The novel also focuses on following your passions.
