Last weekend, the Starr’s Mill wrestling team competed in the area traditional meet. By the end of the day, seven of the team’s 11 wrestlers advanced to the sectional level of competition.

“For area traditional we can only enter one kid per weight class.  We had kids wrestle in 11 out of the 14 weight classes,” head coach John Steiner said. “I think our guys did very well.”

Freshman Evan Bartek (220lb weight class), sophomores Carson Brownell (120lb weight class), Owen Dixon (145lb weight class), and Makoa Serapion (170lb weight class), junior Preston Burrus (182lb weight class), and seniors Parker Dougher (138lb weight class) and Luke Ellis (195lb weight class) were among those who qualified.

“The teams that are in our sectional are some of the best in the state,” Steiner said. “Anything can happen, and it is always possible that some of these wrestlers could qualify and move on to the state tournament next week.”

These seven wrestlers will now compete in the sectional meet this weekend at LakePoint in Emerson, Georgia.
