Tim Monihan and Farmers Insurance recognize Blakeley Wingo as the seventh Player of the Week for the fall sports season.
“I try to bring leadership and encourage the freshmen because it’s scary when you first get on this team with over 80 people,” Wingo said. “So I try to make them feel welcome and to just try and enjoy it more.”
According to head coach Kelly Rock, Wingo took the summer to work hard and kicked off the season with a great time trial. Her 2-mile time trial for the beginning of the season was 13 minutes and three seconds.
“Blakeley is one of our strongest girl runners. She’s also a team captain this year,” Rock said. “We’re looking forward to seeing all that she can do the rest of the season.”
The Lady Panthers placed 10th in the AT&T Starr’s Mill Panther Cross Country Meet on September 4. Wingo finished 95th out of 209 runners. Sophomore Emma Wright was the top finishing Starr’s Mill runner coming in 69th with a time of 21 minutes, 27.51 seconds.
Although Wingo did not compete in the Carrollton Orthopaedic Invitational on September 11, the team placed fourth out of 33 schools. Freshman Gabriella Roach led the Lady Panthers, finishing 17th out of 217 runners with a time of 21 minutes, 58.18 seconds.
The Panthers compete at the Wingfoot Classic in Cartersville, Georgia, on September 24 and 25.
