Starr’s Mill welcomes a new assistant principal, David McBride. This year will be Mr. McBride’s seventh year working in education, but his first year as an assistant principal.

He faces the challenge of transitioning from teaching literature, math, social studies and special education, where he had many opportunities to connect with students, to less chances to interact with them as an administrator.

McBride said his approach to his position is to understand student’s different learning styles and to locate what systems need to be put in place to better assist students to be successful throughout their high school experience.

McBride plans to focus on establishing a strong Response-to-Intervention system, which deals with students who are struggling in certain academic areas. This system will help students achieve the level of success expected from Starr’s Mill. He said he intends to apply his knowledge and experiences as a teacher to his role as assistant principal.
