Sophomore Adelae Barkley advanced out of the county level GHP interviews in visual arts. Barkley credits her parents and teachers for her success.

Sophomore Adelae Barkley will represent Starr’s Mill in visual arts.

“Lately I’ve been working on building up my portfolio a little more, and I’ve also done some interview practice,” Barkley said.

Barkley credits all her art teachers and her parents for encouraging and pushing her to move forward with her passion in creating art.

“My art teachers and my parents really encouraged me through a lot of what I do,” Barkley said.

Still keeping options open, Barkley is thinking about potentially going into architecture as a career, but has not decided on what specific field.

Barkley has submitted art in multiple art symposiums and has numerous contest opportunities in her art class. Barkley is still new to competitions, and therefore has yet to receive many awards, but distinctly remembers winning a yearbook cover contest in seventh grade at her old school, Legacy Traditional School.

“This is probably the greatest recognition I’ve gotten, but I’m working on getting more of my art entered in competitions,” Barkley said. “I think that would be a good way to get my art out there.”

Outside of art, Barkley likes to do gymnastics, read, and play the cello.
