Tim Monihan and Farmers Insurance recognize junior football player Nolan Blackwell as the second Player of the Week for the fall sports season.

“My contributions on the defensive side of the ball [is why I think I was chosen as Player of the Week],” Blackwell said. “I had 10 tackles and a touchdown, and we are in a good position moving forward.”

Blackwell leads the defense by example, making calls and plays on his own. He is one of the few players that returned from last year’s defense.

“He’s a lead-by-example guy. He goes out there every day, [and] he’s giving his best effort,” head coach David Cooper said. “He’s always trying to absorb anything we’re talking about or any situation we put him in, and he knows the defense.”

Blackwell had one return for zero yards, 10 tackles and one touchdown in last Friday’s 27-21 loss to Northgate.

The Starr’s Mill Panthers play at Whitewater High School tonight at 7:30 p.m.
