Tim Monihan and Farmers Insurance recognize senior Jackson Underwood as the fifth Player of the Week for the fall season.
“We have a good chance of winning state this year,” Underwood said. “So I’m going to catch as many players as I can, and beat the players we need to beat.”
Last weekend at the OrthoWest Invitational, Underwood was the third highest finisher from Starr’s Mill. Underwood finished 28th overall with a time of 16 minutes, 57.89 seconds.
Senior Nate Pacetti was the highest finisher from Starr’s Mill with a time of 16:14.98, placing fifth overall.
Starr’s Mill finished seventh overall with 193 points, Brookwood won with 107 points.
“Jackson’s strength comes in the way that he communicates,” head coach Austin Enriquez said. ”Everyone on the team is equal, and even though [Underwood] is considerably faster than others, he’s not going to treat others badly.”
Underwood has dealt with illness and injury over the summer, but that has not affected his performance. Beginning as a senior and a captain this year, Underwood is reliable and always comes through for his team.
Both Starr’s Mill cross country teams compete at the Wingfoot XC Classic in Cartersville on September 20.
