Junior Ava Newell will represent Starr’s Mill in communicative arts.

“I was nominated by my AP Language teacher,” Newell said. “I also took AP Seminar and various English classes.”

Newell’s love of reading has been a tool in her success.

“I’ve always loved to read and write, so a lot of practice has gone into that,” Newell said. “I read all the time, I take classes related to the subject, and I make sure to learn as much as possible from my English teachers.”

Her daily practice of the subject has strengthened her skills, and she wants to put them to use in her future career. Throughout her academic career, Newell has won several writing competitions, including awards in middle school.

“I’ve always wanted to be a novelist, and I’ll likely either major or minor in a related subject,” Newell said. “I’m hoping to write novels in my future career path, and hopefully use those to make an impact on the lives of my readers.”

In her free time, Newell likes reading, drawing, painting, and watching TV. She is also currently working on writing a novel.
