AP Macroeconomics teacher Mark DeCourcy is the September recipient of the Golden Apple award. He was selected by AP Physics teacher Nicholas Gillies.
“One time I visited his class and just the way that conversation was going in student interest,” Gillies said. “Just seeing things that students are working on in that class, and how they relate to current events and real life [is why I selected him].”
When teaching in his classroom, DeCourcy’s strategy is to have fun. DeCourcy also connects his material to genuine life experiences and current events.
”The kids,” DeCourcy said. ”Being with you guys. You make it fun.”
DeCourcy recounts his time teaching as a solid experience. He has taught economics and AP Macroeconomics, and he now works part-time at the school teaching three AP Macroeconomics classes.
“I love [economics]. I hated it and I was scared to death of it initially,” DeCourcy said. “Econ is amazing.”
Outside of school, DeCourcy loves any kind of outdoor activity. He especially enjoys going on hikes and biking.
DeCourcy receives $100 from Farmers Insurance to spend on curriculum or instruction. He will also receive a free large pizza from Buck’s Pizza, a gift certificate to Lisa’s Creperie in Senoia, a goodie bag from Safelite Auto, and a free haircut from Main Hair in Peachtree City.
