Which is the better season: Summer or winter?
As long as the seasons have changed, there has always been a debate of whether summer or winter is the better season. Summer is warm and enjoyable, while winter is full of family and celebrations.

Summer is the cheery, joyful season

No matter what time of the year it is, people are always excited for summer. They long for it in the dead of winter, and bask in gratuity during the hot months. Summer is the ultimate season from its enjoyable weather, fun activities, or exhilarating holidays.

The weather during June, July, and August is the ideal temperature. With warm Georgia days and cool windy nights, you can spend endless amounts of time outside enjoying yourself.

Winter is limited in every way. It is never enjoyable to walk outside and immediately freeze and shiver. No matter how many layers, the dry skin, static shocks, and goosebumps are unfortunately unstoppable.

Swimming in pools, going to theme parks, taking vacations are just some of the fun things you can do during summer. Combined with the perfect weather and sunny skies, summer is way more enjoyable for people of all ages.

During winter, when it is consistently dreary and dark, many people complain about a ‘seasonal depression.’ When it is getting dark at 4 p.m. and you have not seen the sun in months, it is hard to find the positivity in a day. With about 10 million Americans experiencing this yearly sadness, it is safe to say, winter is worse than summer.

Summer is home to the patriotic holidays like Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day. People are always out on a lake, popping fireworks, and enjoying themselves on these holidays.

Yes, winter holidays are undeniably enjoyable, but they cannot compare to the fun of summer’s celebrations. Christmas, New Year’s, and Valentine’s Day are the extent of the winter season. Other major holidays like Halloween and Thanksgiving day do not even fall into this ‘winter’ category. With amazing and prominent holidays being in the summer too, these popular celebrations do not make winter any better than any other season.

Living during the winter feels more robotic. The same routine everyday with the same boring results. You wake up and it is way too sunny, and then come home when it is pitch black. No matter what you do during the day, there is no emotion or anything to actually enjoy.

Winter is enjoyable when there is snow, that is undeniable. But how often does it actually snow in Georgia? Once every few years? Definitely not enough to make up for the fact that winter is completely dead and depressing when it is not covered in white.

In addition, summer fashion is top-tier. A walk on the beach in a flowy, light dress is the dream. The cute bathing suits, fun colors, breezy linens, are so much more stylish than a big, puffy, neutral jacket.

Summer is the better season with the enjoyable weather, fun activities, cute style, and overall happiness.

Winter brings more holiday cheer

While summer and winter are drastically different and have different perks, only one can be claimed as the best, and that is winter.

Let’s get the facts straight–winter officially starts on the Winter Solstice in mid-December and continues for the next four months until mid-March during the Spring Equinox. This year winter starts December 21 and ends March 20.

It is the most wonderful time of the year. Holidays surround the winter season from Christmas to Saint Patrick’s Day. And although Thanksgiving and Halloween do not fall in the winter season, they are markers leading up to the season.

Think about being wrapped up in a blanket drinking hot cocoa and watching “Elf” on a cold winter evening. There is no better feeling. Christmas is 36% of American’s holiday of choice, making it the overall favorite  and it is hard to imagine a warm Christmas. This time of the year brings people together and provides many different celebrations throughout the four months celebrating love, new beginnings, and family.

Fashion is a way for individuals to make statements about themselves and express their personalities in their own unique ways. In the summer all you see are shorts and tank tops, but once that cold breeze hits your skin, the real clothes come in.

Cooler weather brings opportunities for layering, adding many new options to anyone’s closet. Additions include boots, coats, hats, gloves, scarves, the list goes on and on. Not only do more layers keep you warm but they can also add more style to your everyday outfits and the combinations are endless. But what if you get hot, just take a layer off unlike you can do in the summer.

Cold weather brings many health benefits contrary to what people might think. Because most plants and insects die due to the chilly forecasts, allergies and bug borne illnesses decrease with the change in temperature. The cold air also lowers inflammation, and improves brain function as well as fat burned, making exercising in the winter more beneficial.

Winter brings extra time to relax and wind down before the new year or begin starting fresh and getting going in the new year. This time can be dedicated to doing good things for yourself. New Year’s resolutions have become popular and romanticized in our world today but it does not have to be.

Starting the simple deed of taking a walk, spending time with a loved one, or reading can have a huge positive impact on the mind. There are also less hours in a day in the winter giving more time to focus on rest.

Summer does bring different positives such as summer break for students and warmer weather for outdoor activities, but who really wants to step outside and immediately start sweating?

Winter provides an equal mix of both play and work into everyday life. Holidays, health, and fashion are just some of the many ways winter will always win the disagreement between which season is better.
