Cheers & Jeers
Cheers

Cheers to Anthony Torres. Freshman Anthony Torres won a full year of free Chick-fil-A at the game against Fayette last week after making a half court shot.

Cheers to Starr’s Mill choir. Five students have advanced to the second round of All State Choir.

Cheers to Starr’s Mill cheer. The gameday cheer team placed 7th in the state out of 25 teams. This was the first year Starr’s Mill participated in this competition.

Cheers to the theatre department. This week, the Starr’s Mill Thespians held auditions and callbacks for “Oklahoma” which will be their spring performance.

Cheers to Starr’s Mill at last week’s Beta convention. Three students placed 1st, one finished in 2nd, and three placed 3rd in competitions ranging from academics to visual and performing arts.

Cheers to varsity flag football. In last week’s GHSA State Playoffs, the Panthers lost a close game to Southeast Bulloch High School, a school with a 99-2 record in program history.

Jeers

Jeers to the week before exams. This week teachers and students alike, will be cramming work, grades, and tests for the end of the semester.

Jeers to “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2”. Released last Friday, this movie has received a lot of backlash for not properly following the storyline that was previously set up by the games and trying to overcompensate with fan jokes and references.

Jeers to FOMO. Watching everyone else hang out, travel, or make memories without you can leave you stuck with the feeling that you are missing something big.

Jeers to 2016 being a decade ago. I am sure all of you are starting to feel old because everything from Pokemon Go and the Mannequin Challenge turn 10 next month.

Jeers to uncomfortable clothes. No one wants to spend their day adjusting outfits that pinch, scratch or drag and turn something simple like getting dressed into a full-day battle.

Jeers to Christmas shopping. As the holidays get closer, people are scrambling for gifts and juggling long lines and price tags that don’t make the season any easier.
