Tim Monihan and Farmers Insurance have presented sophomore Wes Haney with the 11th Player of the Week award for the 2018-2019 school year.
“Wes is just a baller. He loves the game. He’s a competitor,” head coach Chad Phillips said. “He broke that first tackle and I said, ‘Boys, y’all don’t have to worry about the next series. He’s about to go to the house’.”
Haney made a huge impact on last week’s 38-20 win over McIntosh. Haney returned a punt 76 yards and scored a touchdown mid-way through the third quarter.
“I had some good blocks by Hunter Lawson and Sean King and it really got the team going.” Haney said. “I just go out and ball out every night.”
The Panthers will not play this Friday because it is the team’s bye week. The Mill will look to stick to its winning ways next week as they prepare to face Riverdale.
Last year, the Panthers dominated the Raiders in a 37-19 win at Riverdale. Next week, however, the top spot in the region is on the line as Starr’s Mill (5-3, 4-0) hosts the Raiders (7-1, 3-0) Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
