Tim Monihan and Farmers Insurance recognize freshman Chloe Tucker as the ninth Player of the Week for the winter sports season.

“I’ve been working on my dives and flip turns to help me cut down times,” Tucker said. “Also, just my stroke to help me overall.”

Tucker is a very valuable contributor to the team, despite being only a freshman. Although she does not swim year round, she holds the second fastest time for the 50 freestyle, 26.36 seconds. This is her first time swimming outside of a summer league.

Coach Robin Huggins selected Tucker because she swam well in the county championship and anchored two relays that dropped time. 

“We’re cutting a little bit back on the intensity and the length of the workouts just to give their bodies a rest,” head coach Robin Huggins said. “We’re talking to them about eating well, sleeping well, and staying healthy.”

Tucker’s times have dropped throughout the season, and only recently qualified for state in the 100 freestyle. Meanwhile, Starr’s Mill swim won the county championship for the 24th consecutive year. 

Both Panther swim teams travel to Georgia Tech on February 7 for the AAAA State Championship. Prelims begin at 9:30 a.m., and finals begins at 6 p.m.
