Tim Monihan and Farmers Insurance recognize junior running back Jack Murphy as the 12th  Player of the Week for the fall sports season.

“I think Coach Cooper chose me because of my resilience, effort, and determination,” Murphy said. “We played a tough team, but I just tried to make the most out of every carry and get as many yards as I could.”

In last week’s game at Central, Murphy ran the ball 18 times for 68 yards. Despite his efforts, the Panthers lost to Central 49-7. The Panthers are now 1-6 this season.

“Jack had a really good game for us this past Friday night,” Cooper said. “He ran the ball hard against a really good defense, and he’s one of those unsung heroes who doesn’t always get the same credit as others, but it was his time to be acknowledged.”

Through seven games this season, Murphy has 57 carries for 206 yards and two touchdowns. He averages 34.3 rushing yards per game. He also has five receptions for 67 yards and one touchdown.

The Panthers host Harris County at 7:30 p.m. this Friday. This year’s Starr’s Mill Hall of Fame inductees will be announced prior to the game.
