Tim Monihan and Farmers Insurance recognizes junior cross country runner Cate Simmons as the 17th Player of the Week for the fall sports season.

“I feel like when I give my efforts in practice and racing, that motivates our highest scoring runners to do the same,” Simmons said. “It’s just about getting over that challenge. When everyone does that, it’s easy.

Last weekend at the JV championship at One Church, Simmons finished 43rd overall. She was the second highest finisher on the girls team with a time of 23 minutes, 35.52 seconds. Eighth grade runner Lainey Perez won the event by over a minute with a time of 19:29.14.

“It was really easy to pick Cate,” cross country head coach Austin Enriquez said. “She does all the work, she’s got a great attitude, and she’s really progressed and became a faster runner.”

The JV girls team finished 7th overall with 181 points. Harrison High School won the event with 31 points.

On the boys side, the JV boys finished 4th overall. The highest finishers were junior Logan Hand and Cason Cauble who finished 6th and 7th, respectively.

Following results of the sectional meet this weekend, Starr’s Mill cross country will attend the state meet at Carrollton on November 7.
