Tim Monihan and Farmers Insurance recognize sophomore varsity girls basketball player Aftyn Heiden as the fourth Player of the Week for the winter sports season.
“I feel like I really just create more on the team, like, opportunities for my teammates,” Heiden said. “I just love our team dynamic, and I feel like they really are some of my closest friends.”
Heiden has been playing basketball as a Panther since her freshman year. She is the combo guard for her team, and she is good at anticipating plays so that she can create turnovers. She works hard on her team and is dedicated during every game.
“I think her development and maturity over the last 12 months from where she was last year to now–physically, mentally–has just been an extremely big part of our team’s success,” head coach Brandon Cerezola said. “It’s just the fire that she plays with and the competitiveness that she does everything with, and so I think that’s been the biggest thing that stood out about her, and just her play with the team.”
Heiden is averaging 13.0 points per game, 3.6 assists per game, and 3.0 steals per game. She and her team are 6-1 overall after losing to Carrollton Tuesday night, 58-45.
Varsity girls basketball hosts Whitewater tonight at 6 p.m. The team begins region play at Griffin on December 19.
