Tim Monihan and Farmers Insurance recognize freshman girls swimmer Delaney Shedd as the eighth Player of the Week for the winter sports season.
“[I think I have earned this award by my] hard work and pushing myself,” Shedd said. “[I want to work on] dropping more time and more endurance for longer and harder events.”
Shedd has been on the team for one year, and is one of the few freshmen representing the varsity team. Head coach Robin Huggins picked her for her willingness to help the team and step into roles that were hard to fill.
“Delaney has had a really consistent season. She started out as a very good swimmer but she has consistently gotten better each week,” Huggins said. “It takes a special kind of swimmer that can do that.”
The Panthers kept their County Championship streak alive winning their 26th in a row on January 17. Swimmers have already been chosen to represent Starr’s Mill at state, and Shedd is one of the few freshmen who qualified.
Starr’s Mill will compete at state on February 4-5, 2026.
