Tim Monihan and Farmers Insurance recognize sophomore wrestler Rocco Sweeney as the 11th Player of the Week for the winter sports season. This is the second time this season Sweeney has earned the recognition.
“I did get an injury at sectionals,” Sweeney said. “It’s been a lot of recovering from that but also getting some work in.”
He was selected because of his hard work over the past three weeks. Even after getting injured, Sweeney has been working hard to slowly increase his training to get in the right mental mindset.
“He wrestled well at the area tournament, region champ, and had a really good day Saturday and finished his day with an overtime win,” wrestling head coach John Steiner said.
Sweeney has been on the team for three years and is wrestling in the 113-pound weight class.
Sweeney and senior Devin Starr will compete in the traditional GHSA State Championships this Friday as the only two wrestlers from Starr’s Mill.
