Tim Monihan and Farmers Insurance recognize sophomore tennis player AP Heard as the fourth Player of the Week for the spring season.
“My doubles partner [and I] are always communicating and talking off the court,” Heard said. “I think I’m just more mindful that I actually need to be a contributing part of the team and work to grow off the court.”
Girls tennis started the season with two losses before winning the next seven matches. The streak came to an end in the Division III championship in the Granger Invitational last weekend where Starr’s Mill lost to Lambert.
“She, with her doubles partner, came back from behind in most of those matches, which was amazing that they were able to fight their way back,” head coach Katie Tucker said. “We were really impressed with her perseverance and tenacity.”
After defeating Columbus in a third set tie-break, Heard and her doubles partner junior Kayla Peavyhouse secured a spot for Starr’s Mill in the championship match against Lambert.
Starr’s Mill hosts Columbus at 4:30 p.m. on March 23.
