Starr’s Mill welcomes English teacher Karmarlos Jackson to the Panther family. He is teaching 10th and 12th grade English and the mythology classes.
“I enjoy what I do,” Jackson said. “If everybody [taught] for free I would probably do it for free.”
Jackson was inspired to teach by his professor in college who was his first Black male teacher. His professor had a lot good things going for himself and Jackson saw him as a role model.
“I grew up in West Palm Beach, Florida, and my grandmother who raised me was a pretty big wrestling fan. Every Monday night we would go down and watch the wrestling game, and that’s something that kind of stuck with me,” Jackson said. “Now my middle daughter loves professional wrestling, and it’s something that we’ve bonded over.”
He has three daughters and has been married for about 14 years. Being on the same schedule as his children gives him more time with them. In Jackson’s free time, he likes to work out.
