Starr’s Mill welcomes Jamila Evelyn to the Panther family. Evelyn joins the TRIAD program team as a paraprofessional. This will be her first time teaching in this position.
“We are there to help our students stay on task and focused,” Evelyn said, “[We] also engage with [the students] so they can help integrate them into the community.”
Evelyn has worked many different jobs but always focused on children and helping them succeed whether that be little kids in daycare, substitute teaching in the county, or social work such as counseling.
Helping students learn how to cope with their emotions and express them to be able to manage in a work or public setting once they enter the real world is the passion Evelyn embodies and wants to continue.
“We are all humans and we all feel it,” Evelyn said.
Outside of school Evelyn spends most of her time with her daughter doing activities such as seeing family, skating, swimming, or going to museums. Evelyn enjoys reading and being outdoors.
“I just want the students to know I’m approachable,” Evelyn said, “I am a safe space.”
