Starr’s Mill welcomes choral director Amare McJolly to the Panther family. McJolly recently earned his Master’s degree in music and choral conducting from Georgia Southern. This is his first year teaching.
“I’d like to contribute a sense of community to Starr’s Mill High School,” McJolly said. “I want the chorus to get out of these four walls, and I want other people to experience what Starr’s Mill has to offer for choir.”
McJolly was a member of Cobb County’s choir program when he was in high school. At one of the choir competitions his school hosted, he saw Southern Chorale, and this inspired him to join the Southern Sirens. He is now an experienced member of the Southern Siren’s Collegiate Ensemble.
“I had some very influential chorus teachers when I was in high school, and my junior year I was like, ‘I think I want to do this for a career’,” McJolly said. “After that, I knew what I wanted to do, and now I’m doing it.”
McJolly likes to sing and listen to jazz and R&B music. Outside of school, McJolly loves to travel, spend time with family, and hang out with his friends.
