Out of the 36 French students who took the National French Exam, 10 ranked nationally.
On March 23-24, French I- IV students piled into the Foreign Language lab to take the daunting 70-question verbal and written test. According to French teacher Marie Scott, “We always have winners, but this was the first year we really excelled.”
Seven students in Scott’s French II class placed within the top 10 in the nation. Junior ChrissyDale Persons and sophomore Auren Arevalo both missed one question to place them second nationally.
“Getting second made me feel really good about how well I am picking up French. I hope to one day be fluent and these classes have been very helpful,” Arevalo said.
Sophomores David Brunskole, Michael Foster and Lily Thomas all placed fourth while Sarah McMillen and Maria Castillo received honors for sixth and 10th.
“Madame Scott really prepared us for this test, and my success definitely comes from how well she teaches the language” Foster said.
Three freshmen students who take Valerie Hughey’s French I class also placed in the top 10. They are Victoria Alvarez, Dhruva Jandhyala and Christina Hubeli ranked fifth, sixth and eighth respectively.
“The students who did well on the National French Exam really show they love the language and are willing to go the extra mile,” Scott said.
