PBIS has announced the April Staff Member and Students of the Month.
Fellow coworkers Nick Castagna and Erin Badger nominated environmental science and biology teacher Samantha Krage as April’s Staff Member of the Month. She was chosen due to her immense help planning the PBIS Block Party.

“She put in a lot of hours,” Castagna said. “I thought it was even better this time around.”
Other staff members nominated were math teachers Erin Badger and Heather McNally, English teacher Shad Genovese, softball coach Peyton Dean, bookkeeper Brenda Adams, and learning specialists Luke Hearn and Jennifer Moc.
Staff Member of the Month Samantha Krage nominated junior Anna Bruijn as April’s Upperclassman of the Month. Bruijn was chosen because of her leadership in the Marine Biology Club aquarium field trip.

“She took such responsibility,” Krage said. “It was successful largely because of her.”
Other upperclassmen nominated were junior Sophia Lambardo and senior Emma Arnold.
Biology and physical science teacher Amy Hinote nominated freshman Brennyn Peterson as April’s Underclassman of the Month. Peterson was selected for always exemplifying all three of the PBIS values.
“She encourages others to pay attention and do their work,” Hinote said.

Other underclassmen nominated were freshmen Christina Chow, Addison Brewer, and Jameson Kruse, and sophomores Brady Defler, Haden Hoppaugh, and Ava Glover.
Once a month Elise Heaton, the assistant principal in charge of PBIS, sends out a link to the staff so that they can nominate teachers and students on their good mannerism. The PBIS committee, composed of Heaton, a PBIS coach, and other staff, voted on the PBIS staff and students of the month.
“The PBIS program at Starr’s Mill helps us focus on the three core values that we want all of our students and staff to exhibit on a daily basis: respect, accountability, and responsibility,” assistant principal Elise Heaton. “So with PBIS and focusing on these three things we can celebrate the positive things going on in our building instead of the negative things, which will hopefully encourage others to show those positive values as well.”
