To begin the 2025-2026 school year, Fayette County Public Schools initiated a county-wide clear bag policy at all sporting events.
“At our athletic events, there are a number of people attending games from all over the metro area.” Director of Athletics, Attendance, Safety, and Discipline Oatha Mann said. “We wanted to create an environment where it would be difficult for someone to bring in items such as firearms in our venues.”
The policy states that most bags must be see-through and have nothing obstructing the view into the bag. The bags cannot be bigger than 12’’ by 6’’ by 12.’’ The only exceptions listed for the policy were medical bags, diaper bags, and small purses, which are subject to being searched prior to entry.
This policy follows many guidelines seen at other professional sporting events. The exact same policy initiated by FCBOE is the same policy seen on the NFL legal page.
“This practice is already being implemented at major sporting events in the state,” Mann said.
