A brand new, louder than ever, music festival is coming to Starr’s Mill. Can you hear that? That’s Starchella making noise on Homecoming night!
This year’s theme is Starchella, based on the music festival Coachella. Each of the halls, as well as the dance, will be themed around music.
There will be many events leading up to the Homecoming game and dance, including dress up days. These dress up days include: Teacher Swap Day, Generations Day, Dress Like a Celebrity Day, Decades Day, and Spirit Day.
“We have a running list of the theme days, and so we talk about it for a week prior,” Student Government Association sponsor Whitney Shoemaker said. “Then, the students come and talk to their friends and come back, and then we vote.”
There is also the Homecoming parade, taking place on September 17, at 5:30 p.m., at Braelinn Elementary. Unlike most years, the parade is on a Wednesday this year.
“I was told to hold it on Wednesday because we have a bunch of events going on at the same time,” Shoemaker said. “On Wednesday, there was nothing going on in the school, so it would’ve been a better day, more people could get involved.”
SGA is looking for volunteers to decorate the halls for this year. This Friday, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., students will be decorating the halls. The more people that join, the quicker it can be done.
Once the hallways are complete, judges will vote on which one is best. The freshmen hall will be themed around hip-hop, the sophomores will be themed around rock and roll, juniors will be country, and seniors will be disco.
“I’m really appreciative of all the adults who help out,” Shoemaker said. ”And the kids who come out and help with Student Government.”
