Happy Friday, Panthers! As we finish up the end-of-course exams and a crazy schedule this week, let’s get into this week’s KICs. The week’s headlines include a man confessing to murder in Indiana, parking cost increases at the airport, and Somalia terror funding being blocked.
National – Man confesses to murder, messaging family under another name
On April 14, 35-year-old Wilma Robertson of Hanover, Indiana, was found dead during a wellness check of her home. She was fatally stabbed to death.
Robertson’s family started to get messages from Kentucky man Shawn Bailey. Bailey was taken into custody by police on April 15 and was released ten days later following DNA tests negating him as a suspect. The messages were found to have been made through a fake account by Ohio man Nigel Thomas.
Thomas, also known as “Nati-Bang,” was taken into custody Friday and is accused of murder. Potential motives for the murder have not been released.
State – Parking prices increase at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport
On May 1, new parking rates went into effect at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport. It will be the first update in eight years.
Airport officials announced the rate changes in April, stating that the airport has seen significant increases in operational costs related to parking. Officials argue that new parking decks are needed, because more travelers are headed through the Atlanta airport. Once the new deck is done in 2026, the South Deck will be demolished.
Atlanta Airport General Manager Ricky Smith told news officials that adjusting parking rates ensures a safe and efficient travel experience for people inside and outside of Atlanta. Officials are recommending travelers to review the rates before the summer rush.
Politics – Somalia terror funding blocked by Republican senators until allies pay
U.S. Republicans are awaiting Europe, the African Union, and the United Nations until they pay their dues for war against Islamic terror. A new bill to help with these payments is planning to be introduced.
Somalia has seen years of Islamic terror. Just in the last few weeks, they have carried out four airstrikes. They have made multiple attempts to attack and target multiple areas around the country.
Though, European officials are planning to skew their payments for peacekeeping. They plan to make the United States pay more than what is due already.
