Happy Friday, Panthers! Hopefully, y’all enjoyed the long weekend and short week! While you are getting back into the swing of things make sure to check out this week’s KICs. This week we have the US enforcing tariffs on India’s goods, Amazon changing their plan of action, and the one-year anniversary of the Apalachee High School shooting.
World – US enforces tariffs on India’s goods
The US recently enforced tariffs of 50% on goods imported from India. This includes a 25% fine due to Delhi’s refusal to stop buying oil from Russia. Trump’s words have caused Delhi-Washington ties to plummet, even though India has not responded to any comments.
Washington states that India is second-handedly funding the war between Russia and Ukraine. This is because Delhi buys most of its oil supply from Russia. Delhi argues that this is only because Russia provides enough oil to power their city.
The US was previously India’s biggest trading partner. These sudden tariffs have started to cause fear around exports and the economy.
National- Amazon changes plan of action
Amazon has members in an uproar with their new approach with things, taking away free shipping from users outside of the household. From Amazon’s point of view, it is an opportunity for people to sign up for their own subscription so they can be satisfied.
With this subscription, members will be able to have a low price to pay of $14.99 for one year every month or you will be able to pay $139.00 for the whole year in one payment. This is Amazon’s way of giving more ways for the members to enjoy their business while earning more money along the way.
This deal brings faster delivery for members across the US. The service is targeted to the smaller towns and hopefully will be a huge success by the end of the year.
State – One-year mark of Apalachee High School deadly shooting
On September 4, 2024, Apalachee High School experienced a deadly school shooting. As the one year mark comes up, the community is coming together to remember those who were lost.
Two teachers and two students were fatally shot in the incident. Nine others were injured. Though the trial date is yet to be released, Colt Gray, the shooter, is actively going through the adult trial process.
In the process of community healing, many service projects are taking place in the school and around the area. Memorial benches and murals are planned to further commemorate the day.
