Panthers, happy Friday! We finally are moving into the fall season. The mornings are a little bit chiller and pumpkin spice lattes are coming back. While you are thinking about the fall menu, take a look at this week’s KICs. This week we have six killed in a bus stop shooting in Jerusalem, Maduro sending troops to borders amongst standoffs with the US, a Coweta County police chase ending in a collision, and the assassination of Republican politician Charlie Kirk.
World – At least 6 killed in bus stop shooting in Jerusalem
Two attackers opened fire at a bus stop in Jerusalem on Monday. This is the most deadly attack in over two years.
The two attackers arrived by vehicle and opened fire at a bus stop in Ramot Junction. A police officer and civilian opened fire against the attackers and neutralized them. At least six were killed and more were injured.
Police, under the command of the District Commander, are securing the area and gathering evidence.
National – Maduro sends the troops to borders amongst standoffs with the US
Maduro has desired to boost his country’s own military readiness in the face of the US movements, including doubling the deployment of troops to secure the Caribbean coast line and the border with Colombia. Maduro said in a post on social media that he would send 25,000 troops to the borders, which boosted from the previous announcement of 10,000 soldiers.
Pete Hegseth, the Pentagon chief, is following Trump’s decision to rebrand the US Department of Defense, and made a surprise visit to Puerto Rico and the US Navy Ship with the assets deployed to target drug cartels. Hegseth was accompanied by the military officer Gen. Dan Caine, and they were welcomed by Jeniffer Gonzalez-Colon, the governor of Puerto Rico. She thanked Trump and the administration for recognizing the value Puerto Rico has to the security of the US and fighting against drug cartels.
On Thursday, two Venezuelan F-16 fighter jets flew over the USS Jason Dunham, according to multiple Department officials who stated the action to CBS News as a “show of force” by Maduro’s regime. The US has deployed a destroyer to the region.
State – Coweta County police chase ends in collision
Coweta County Sheriff’s office engaged in a high speed case with Charles Harden. Police originally sought Harden for an obstructed car tag, but found that Harden was also driving with an expired license.
The pursuit took place in a constitution zone. Harden’s dangerous driving put many construction workers’ lives at risk. Fortunately, no one was injured. The construction zone was not damaged in the pursuit.
Coweta County sheriffs were able to catch Harden, and he is now in jail. Harden faces several felony charges, including attempting to elude, suspended license, no insurance, and reckless driving.
Politics – Republican politician Charlie Kirk, assassinated
On September 10, 2025, American politician Charlie Kirk was assassinated. Kirk was advocating for conservative values with his organization, Turning Point USA, when a shot rang out.
The Utah Valley University campus was closed down quickly once the shot was heard. President Donald Trump along with many former presidents have offered condolences to Kirk’s family on the X social media platform.
A search is still underway as law enforcement attempts to identify a suspect. Both Utah Law Enforcement and the FBI officials are on the case.
