In 2019, Team Cherry announced that it would produce “Silksong,” the sequel to “Hollow Knight.” The long-awaited game released on September 4, 2025, selling for $20. It was a very popular game and reached the top of the Steam sales chart. It was so popular that some game stores crashed.
When people were trying to buy the game, it caused popular game storefronts like Steam and the Microsoft Store to crash. The last time steam crashed due to a popular video game was on June 5, 2025, with “Deltarune: Chapters 3 and 4” by Toby Fox.
On Bluesky, someone posted “STEAM, LET ME PLAY SILKSONG,” and another person posted with a picture of the Steam error message stating, “First boss of #Silksong is really tough.” There were also similar problems with Twitch streamers when they were trying to play the game for their viewers.
The first 30 minutes of when “Silksong” was released, approximately 100,000 people managed to get their copies of the game.
There was a very big outage toward the PlayStation Store, Steam, Nintendo eShop, and the Microsoft Store. Many people were reporting issues of buying the game as soon as it was released. The services were down for several hours before it was brought back up.
After the storefronts were brought up, “Silksong” managed to sell over 15 million copies and hit Steam’s top-selling game. It currently has more than 100,000 concurrent players on Steam alone.
