Head girls soccer coach and Algebra I teacher John Bowen has read “The Young Champion’s Mind: How to Think, Train, and Thrive like an Elite Athlete” by Jim Afremow.

“It’s mental skills that students can develop,” Bowen said. “[They] grow their grit value and figure out how to work through adversity.”
“The Young Champion’s Mind” is a book that teaches how students should train not only their bodies but minds to best prepare them for a career in sports, while making sure students keep up with grades and school. This book covers tips on getting in the zone, how to progress within the sport, and customizable pre-performance routines to hit full power right at the start.
“[I’d recommend this for] anybody who’s interested in getting stronger mentally,” Bowen said.
Jim Afremow has written several books on this topic, including his bestselling books “The Champion’s Mind,” “The Champion’s Comeback,” and “The Young Champion’s Mind.”
“[Jim Afremow’s] got several of them,” Bowen said. “How to get bigger, faster, stronger mentally as opposed to physically.”
“The Young Champion’s Mind” is a guide like no other, guiding the reader to greatness with simple and easy to understand language in both sports and in life.
