English teacher Kelly Corallo recently watched the TV series “Dept. Q.”
Based on the book series by Jussie Adler-Olsen, this British crime thriller was released in May 2025 and was officially renewed for another season in August. It follows the story of DCI Carl Morck, a detective who is returning to work after being shot and is put in charge of a cold case unit for solving high profile cases.
When his main case is a mysterious four year disappearance of persecutor Merritt Lingard, he and his team dig into a long-held family grudge and plans for revenge that lead to this mysterious case.
Directed by Scott Frank who also co-wrote the books, the series stars Matthew Goode as Carl Morck, Chloe Pirrie, and Alexej Manvelov.
What did you enjoy about this film/series?
“It’s dark but still funny,” Corallo said.
What motivated you to watch this film/series?
“Matthew Goode is in it,” Corallo said. “I end up watching things with him in it pretty regularly.”
What was the most memorable part of this film/series?
“When he’s first attacked and shot,” Corallo said. “You keep seeing the same scene because he keeps trying to remember.”
How is this film/series different from others that you have watched?
“It’s currently not like American crime dramas,” Corallo said.
What other films similar to this one would you recommend?
“‘Adolescence’” kind of falls into that category,” Corallo said. “And then a show with David Tenant ‘Broadchurch’.”
