Freshman Abdiel Melo-Hernandez has been listening to “For: You” by Kali Uchis.

“[I like] the overall vibe it gives,” Melo-Hernandez said. “[The song] is calming.”

“For: You” is about love and what you are willing to do for somebody you love. Before even listening to the song, the title shows the idea of doing something for someone you cherish. The lyrics then continue to convey the actions you would take for the person you care strongly for. 

Kali Uchis, age 31, is a Columbian-American music artist. She started her career in 2012 when she released the mixtape “Drunken Babble.” Uchis focuses on blending genres including Latin Pop, Soul, and R&B. “For: You” is part of Kali Uchis’ fifth album, “Sincerely,” released in May 2025. 

The lyrics of “For: You” are fond and heartfelt. The words “What I would do” and “It’s all for you” further present the feelings of self-sacrifice for your loved ones. In the song, Uchis chooses these words to relate back to her audience. 

“I heard it from my cousins,” Melo-Hernandez said. “They introduced me to the artist.”
