English teacher Shad Genovese has recently been listening to “Oh Love” by Green Day.

“I’m a big fan of Green Day and all that 90’s punk and grunge,” Genovese said.
“Oh Love” is a song about a person who, despite feeling like he has a great life, is not getting much joy out of it. He is missing something important that he just cannot grasp. He has all the pleasure he could want out of life, but he still feels like life is passing him by.
“It reminds me a lot of the Book of Ecclesiastes,” Genovese said. “And how there’s more meaning to life than just pleasure.”
The song is mainly focused around the lead guitar and vocals from Billie Joe Armstrong and is purely in the realm of pop punk. It revolves around the AB song structure found in many popular songs in the genre. The lyrics are specific enough to have meaning, but vague enough to apply to personal experiences that the listener could have.
The song was released on the album “¡UNO!,” the first in a series of similarly named albums that would release the same year. “¡UNO!” was their ninth studio album.
“Oh Love” is on all major streaming platforms.
