Last Thursday night, the Starr’s Mill girls varsity lacrosse team finished its season in the second round of state playoffs. The Panthers lost to Blessed Trinity 13-7.
“We thought we were going to do better,” junior Kylie Collum said. “Although we lost, it was still a good game, and I think we did good.”
Starr’s Mill struggled to begin the game and went down early. The Panthers trailed 6-0 after the first quarter.
The struggle continued into the second quarter with Blessed Trinity extending its lead. At halftime, Blessed Trinity led 9-1.
“We knew we were going to come in having to work really hard, because we knew we were going to play the team who already beat us,” senior Sara Marshburn said. “In the first half we came out slow, but we also did good in the second half.”
In the second half, Starr’s Mill battled back, narrowing the lead and minimizing additional goals by the Titans. Blessed Trinity advanced to the Elite Eight after defeating the Panthers 13-7.
“It was just a really tough game. We had a really tough bracket that we just couldn’t overcome,” head coach Tony Kluemper said. “We played a really great second half. If we could have played the first half kind of like that, we would have had a much different result.”
Blessed Trinity defeated Starr’s Mill earlier in the season 17-6. The Panthers finished 12-6 overall and 5-0 in the area.
