Earlier this week, the Panthers hosted the Carrollton Trojans. The Panthers started a little shaky in the first three sets before finding their rhythm and winning 3-2.
“I think that we all did good, like bringing each other up and just like getting out of the hole,” junior Annamarie Torqueza said.
The turning point came when the Panthers scored three points in under two minutes in the fourth set. The crowd was hype and the team looked incredible, blocking hits, making smart passes, and celebrating every point together.
“I think it started off a little bit rough, but at the end, I started to get into it now that I was all warmed up and all the nerves were gone,” senior Ember Ness said.
By the fifth set, the Panthers had full control of the game, closing it out with a 15-7 win. It was more than just a victory. Starr’s Mill showed everyone that they could regroup, refocus, and just play their best until the end.
“I am very proud of the way they fought. They didn’t give up,” head coach Shayne Thompson said. “They were there for each other, they played with each other, and they supported each other.”
The Panthers are currently 4-5 overall after dropping both matches to Brookstone and Woodward Academy on August 14. Starr’s Mill plays Riverdale and Sandy Creek at Sandy Creek on August 19.
