Last weekend, Starr’s Mill hosted the third annual VolleyBrawl.
With VolleyBrawl being so close to the start of the season, teams use it as a benchmark for early season improvements.
“I love all the new girls on the team,” senior Katie Gutshall said. “I feel that we’re really learning to work well together and that we’re gonna do really well this year.”
In the final match against Woodward, the first set started with a back and forth with the War Eagles maintaining a two-point lead. However, the War Eagles prevailed 25-19.
The War Eagles jumped out to a 9-2 lead to begin the second set. Despite closing the gap to 15-13, Woodward took the set and first place, 25-14.
“We played really well against Woodward, which is good because they’re a really tough team,” head coach Shayne Thompson said.
Following a second place finish in the VolleyBrawl, Starr’s Mill is 11-8 overall. They travel to Brookstone on August 28 for their next match.
