Starr’s Mill welcomes new teacher Courtney Day to the ESOL department. Day joins the Panthers after working at Shoal Creek Adventist School for three years, followed by substituting for Fayette County Schools last year.

This year, she has moved to Starr’s Mill to assist high school students with English as their second language.

“I want the kids to know that they can achieve great things,” Day said. “I want them to know that they are smart.”

Day had a kindergarten teacher who was an inspiration for her to become a teacher. In college, she also went to Bolivia for a year to test out being a teacher and to put herself in her students’ shoes.

“I had to learn what it was like to live in another country and to be around another culture,” Day said. “It helps me relate to my students.”

Day enjoys having close relationships with students in the classroom and helping them feel motivated. Away from the classroom, she is the JV girls volleyball coach and recently returned from a summer trip to Japan.
