After the immense critical and box office failure of “Green Lantern” in 2011, the movie’s star, Ryan Reynolds, makes an astounding comeback in Marvel’s newest action-packed movie, “Deadpool.” Earning almost $333.4 million in the box office, “Deadpool” has dominated theaters since its Feb. 12 release.

“Deadpool” is a new Marvel comedy, filled with action and violence as well as heart-warming romance. Directed by Tim Miller, the film follows the extensive adventures of Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and his incredible super powers. After what feels like an overdue quality film, Marvel steps up their game with the release of  “Deadpool.”

Deadpool begins as his alter ego, Wade Wilson. Shortly after proposing to his long-term girlfriend Vanessa (Morena Baccarin), Wilson is diagnosed with terminal cancer. Unsure of what to do next, Wade leaves Vanessa, not wanting her to remember him weak and sick.

A strange and unsettling man approaches Wilson at a bar and tells him he can cure him, while also giving him super-human abilities. He is quite skeptical, but with no other way to be with Vanessa, Wilson agrees to the procedure.

Deadpool-poster-2Before going into the laboratory, Wilson cracks a joke about not wanting his super suit to be green. This reference to his role in “Green Lantern” is sure to resonate with Deadpool comic fans, who know the character for his habit of breaking the fourth wall.

The audience soon discovers that Wilson has been deceived by the mysterious man and leads him to the evil villain A-Jax. Wilson is forced to be injected with A-Jax’s serum that supposedly brings super powers. Though it successfully cures his cancer, the serum also leaves Wilson severely disfigured.

Knowing his looks could easily make him lose Vanessa forever, Wilson neglects to come back to her until he finds A-Jax and finds the cure for his skin. He creates a black and red super suit, an outfit well-known among comic book fans everywhere.

Wilson becomes Deadpool, an anti-hero who will find the bad guy– at any cost. Many parts of the film are darkly humorous as he cracks jokes while killing anyone who comes between him and his goal. In many parts of the film, Deadpool even delivers his dialogue directly to the audience, adding to the humorous tone.

As the plot unfolds, the CGI incorporated in the explosions and action scenes look incredibly real. Whenever he removes his mask, the audience sees the use of special effects in Wilson’s skin, which looks shockingly real.

Throughout “Deadpool,” there is never any shortage of action. However, with action comes a great deal of extreme violence.

Although “Deadpool” is a well-rounded and exciting film, it may not be suitable for anyone under the age of 17. There is a great deal of murder, shooting, and bloodshed as Deadpool’s story progresses. In addition to the violence, some parts of the movie are inappropriate due to some nudity and foul language.

While elements of Deadpool can be unsuitable for younger audiences, his vulgar behavior captures his intended attitude from the original comic book. Despite this, “Deadpool” is a hilarious movie that is filled with action and heartbreaking moments that can almost make you cry.

This film truly captures the spirit of modern superhero movies while adding its own distinctive twist. A thrilling and fresh film experience, “Deadpool” will capture even the most uninterested moviegoers.
