Special Education students make guest appearance at music conference

Rising Starr Chorus teacher Christie Todd leads the students of the Special Education Music Therapy class in a vocal warm-up. The students sing a musical scale and use hand motions for each of the eight notes.

Yesterday the nearly two dozen students in the Special Education Music Therapy class woke up at the crack of dawn to travel to Savannah.

The students are participating in a special presentation at the annual Georgia Music Educators Association conference this weekend.

Chorus teacher Dr. John Odom, Learning Specialist Courtney Savage and Chorus teacher Christie Todd from Rising Starr Middle School will instruct Fine Arts teachers and administrators from all over the state about different strategies and techniques they use in their Music Therapy class to further involve special education students in the Chorus Department.
