Starr’s Mill economics teacher Walt Ellison earned a $150 Amazon gift card after submitting a 60-second video explaining why he teaches economics. The video was part of a competition sponsored by the Georgia Council on Economic Education.

Starr’s Mill economics teacher Walt Ellison has been named one of the two winners of the Georgia Council on Economic Education “Why I like teaching Economics” video contest.

“I tried to make the video funny,” Ellison said. “I’m a big fan of sweater vests, so I decided to make the video about how econ is all around us…using the unsung hero of winter wear as an example.”

For the contest, Ellison had to create a 60-second video, and send it to GCEE explaining why he likes teaching economics.

“Seriously, econ really is everywhere. It’s part of everything you and I do every day,” Ellison said. “Our decisions are driven by economic thought, whether we know it or not.”

Ellison thanked senior Tyler Ercole for filming and editing the video, and his third period class for wearing his assortment of sweater vests in the video.

Each contest winner is awarded a $150 Amazon gift card.
