English teacher Whitney Shoemaker fulfilled a deal with her classes to match donations for HOSA’s leukemia and lymphoma research fundraiser.

“I just told my students that I would match any donations they made, and they just started pouring in money,” Shoemaker said. ”I thought it would have been just a couple hundred dollars.”

Her classes raised over $900 dollars. Due to this and the money Shoemaker and her husband donated to match it, $1,908.50 was donated from Shoemaker’s classes alone.

Fellow English teacher Jill Bowen’s classes collected $447.38, while Brandon Kendall’s classes raised $389.18, the third highest amount.

“Our original goal was $2,000 dollars, so we have surpassed our goal,” HOSA sponsor Julie McKenna said.

HOSA has currently surpassed $3,400 in donations, which will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
