English teacher Tara Burnette is currently in the middle of re-reading one of her favorite books, Pat Conroy’s “Beach Music.”

“Beach Family” is a book about a Southern family who cope with the sudden loss of a family member, and have to deal with their tragic past in a quest to find peace. Author Pat Conroy takes the reader through multiple generations of storytelling until reaching an ultimate conclusion.

“He digs deep into what it looks like to grow up in a traditional Southern family and all the many intricacies that are a part of that life,” Burnette said.

Pat Conroy is an accredited author who has written several acclaimed novels, some of which have been adapted into films. He passed away in 2016, but his legacy continues to live on in his writings.

“Being from the South, it’s very different from being from the Northeast or the Midwest,” Burnette said. “He does a good job explaining it and describing it in his work.”

Burnette recommends those with a more Southern background to check out “Beach Music.”

The book ultimately is about letting go of past mistakes and self-redemption, coated in a paint of southern culture.
