Junior Riley Gibbas reads “The Fault in Our Stars” by John Green. The message of this young adult fiction novel is to embrace life and love.

Junior Riley Gibbas finished reading John Green’s “The Fault in Our Stars” last week.

“I liked how the characters were written,” Gibbas said. “I feel like they were pretty accurate to how teenagers actually are.”

“The Fault in Our Stars” is the story of a teenage girl, Hazel Lancaster, who develops cancer and begins to go to a cancer recovery group. She meets a boy, Augustus Waters, who also has cancer. This book is the story of how they start to fall in love with each other, ending in a tragic romance.

John Green is an American author and YouTuber who publishes young adult fiction and posts educational videos for high schoolers.

Other popular books he has written include “Turtles All the Way Down” and “Looking for Alaska.” In 2012, John Green won the Goodreads Choice Award for Best Young Adult Fiction for “The Fault in Our Stars.” He won many other awards for different works of his, such as the Audie Award for Teens and the Shorty Award for Best Author.

“I recommend this book to younger high schoolers,” Gibbas said. “Probably ninth graders, because it is a very easy read but for a more mature audience.”

“The Fault in Our Stars” teaches us to appreciate what we have before it is gone. The book shows that life is more meaningful than it seems, and love must be embraced.
