Science teacher Samantha Krage read “If I Were You” written by Lynn Austin. The novel highlights two friends, Audrey and Eve, during and after World War II. Audrey figures out an astonishing truth about Eve’s intentions and their friendship.

Science teacher Samantha Krage read “If I Were You” by Lynn Austin over the previous summer.

“I like that it was something different. I haven’t read a book like it before,” Krage said. “I also like historical fiction, so that appealed to me as well.”

The book follows two friends, Eve and Audrey, during and after World War II. They become ambulance drivers to pitch in with the war effort, despite the constant danger. However, circumstances change for Audrey, causing her to move to America and live with her in-laws.

Eve follows her path and ends up hoping for relations with Audrey’s brother. Audrey then finds out that Eve has cruel intentions of pretending to be her for the whole of their friendship.

“[The book] was a gift from my sister-in-law,” Krage said. “I typically like historical fiction and action adventure.”

Lynn Austin has written a total of 32 books. Some other famous works by her include the “Chronicles of the King” series, “Wonderland Creek,” and “All She Ever Wanted.” Austin holds the record for the most Christy awards won.

“I would recommend this book to anyone who likes historical fiction mixed with drama and a hint of a love story,” Krage said.

The overall theme of the novel is about owning up to your mistakes and living with the consequences. Lynn Austin highlights that everyone makes choices when they feel desperate, but it is important to tell the truth and to try and make things right.
