Drama teacher Lauren Kuykendall is currently listening to “Unchained Melody” by The Righteous Brothers.

“I really like oldies, and it’s a song that gives me really good memories,” Kuykendall said.

The Righteous Brothers are a musical duo between Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield, who despite their band name, are not brothers. They recorded songs in the 1960s and 1970s and continued to perform live until Hatfield passed away in 2003.

“Unchained Melody” is one of their most popular songs, and is extremely popular in the UK, as the song has reached number one on multiple occasions.

Although the brothers sing this popular song, they did not write it. It was written in 1955 by Hy Zaret, and the music was composed by Alex North.

Famous singer Elvis Presley also made this song popular with his rendition, but The Righteous Brothers’ version holds a safe space in people’s hearts.

“I like older music because it’s much simpler and it reminds me to slow down,” said Kuykendall.
