“[I enjoy listening to this song] when I’m getting ready, at school… [and] doing homework,” Cape said.

Paul Overstreet and Don Schlitz wrote “Forever and Ever, Amen” in 1987 from inspiration by Schlitz’s son. Schlitz recalls his son ending his nightly prayers as a child with, “Mommy, I love you forever and ever, amen.”

After their song was approved, Randy Travis was asked to sing this tune. It did not take long for it to gain much popularity. It earned a Grammy for best country & western song, and Academy of Country Music award, and song of the year by the Country Music Association.

Travis sings in this song that no matter the circumstance or the amount of time, he is always going to love his girl. He explains that his girlfriend allows him to forget all of his past worries and truly just love her.

Travis is one of country music’s most popular stars. In 2013, he suffered a massive stroke that left him unable to talk or walk. Due to his joyful spirit and perseverance even after his stroke, many of his songs and concerts hold an even tighter place in the hearts of his fans.

“[I like Randy Travis] because he is an old country singer and makes good music,” Cape said.

“Forever and Ever, Amen” is available to stream on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Pandora.
