Turn on your speakers and amp up your bass, because rapper Lil Nas X’s “Montero” is hitting the radio hard.

More commonly known as “Call Me by Your Name,” the hit song is blowing up on pop stations and has put Nas X at the head of the charts yet again.

One of the few Black LGBTQ artists in the hip-hop and country genre, Lil Nas X makes a bold statement with the lyrics addressed to his lover throughout “Montero.” Especially amidst the current political culture in the United States, the accompanying music video, which depicts his explicit take on biblical themes, has fueled conversations over social media over whether or not Nas X’s message through which he freely expresses his sexuality is valid.

It is a fast-paced hip-hop piece defined by its repetitive beats and Nas X’s signature rap style. Much like his breakthrough song, “Old Town Road,” “Montero” doesn’t miss the mark and is just as effective at hyping up listeners.

The rapper’s career first took off with the chart-topping single “Old Town Road” just two years ago. Since then, Nas X has released a few other hits, including “Panini” and “Holiday,” but has yet to produce a complete album. The entire “Montero” album is set to release this summer.

Whether you blare it in your car or blast it on your headphones, “Montero” is going to take you for a spin you’ll want to go on over and over again.
