Earlier this week, the flag football team defeated the Creekside Seminoles 26-0 and secured a spot in the state playoffs.

“The team has improved tremendously over the season,” head coach Mark Williamson said. ”We’ve come a long way from where we started.”

The game started off with the Seminoles putting a little pressure on the Panthers. However, that did not last long. Through the first half, the Panthers stopped any progression from the Seminoles with strong defense.

Senior Sienna Kamal got the first touchdown 10 minutes into the first half and set the team up with a 6-0 lead.

“At the beginning, we didn’t really understand the game at all,” Kamal said. ”But now, we move with the speed of the game very well.”

In the second half of the game, the Panthers held the Seminoles from advancing past midfield. Meanwhile, the Panther offense showed no mercy, putting up 20 points and closing out the regular season with the 26-0 win.

“I think the sport will grow exponentially,” Williamson said. “It’s something everyone likes.”

In its inaugural season, flag football will continue into the playoffs following Newnan’s loss to Whitewater. Playoff information is still to be determined.
